A chocolatier has usually a small counter or a tiny glass cabinet to store delicate confections and other sweets. It's normally a stand alone business, but some confectionery shops, especially those specializing in luxury confections, often have smaller areas devoted specifically to chocolate. Usually, the name of the shop or its name is what gives away the information about what kind of chocolate is being produced in the shop. Chocolatier also serve as gourmet testers of chocolate by tasting it and commenting on its flavor. These shops are very popular in the chocolate world.
A chocolate lover should be able to think of many ways to break into this business. Since there aren't many chocolatiers around yet, the competition will be stiff, so you must start with something inexpensive like an empty bowl or some papers to make bags from. This can easily be done using pantry items you probably already have such as sugar cookies, jelly beans and a cake mix. If you don't want to go that cheap route, you could also start with some chocolate chips, dipped fruit slices or even pieces of fruit.
After you've gotten a taste of business, it's time to move up to a bigger shop and/or a bigger area. Move your operation to a bigger space, since it's harder to get customers into a smaller space, especially if it's located in an already busy part of town.
