Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is a free action game by developer Minerale Ltd. It’s the final instalment of the Naruto Shippuden series, which has several additional offerings for Android, such as Naruto Shippuden - Watch Free! and Ultimate Shippuden: Ninja Impact Storm. As you might imagine, you can fight opponents like in the anime series.
Even though the official game is not available for Android, this port tries to do justice to its “bigger console brothers” by offering more or less the same game mechanics, graphical style and characters on the go, albeit cutting several corners.
Plenty of content
One of the most enticing aspects of this rendition of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 it's the many systems and features. To start, you can play with 106 different characters from the series. All of them look unique and have their own characteristics.
Also, a story mode picks up right after Storm 3 Final Burst, but you can choose different scenarios. There’s also a mission mode, a battle mode, and other things that can keep you occupied for a long time.
New mechanics
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 also has a complete overhaul of combat systems. Now you can swap members in battle, there are new weapon and armour break systems, and wall-running is back.
However, the AI is a bit lacking. This hinders the whole experience, as combat is often bland and predictable.
An ambitious project
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is a big game. The effort by the developers to cram everything in and make it playable on smartphones is commendable, but there are some issues as well. Most notably, combat AI should be one of the top polished features for a fighting game, which isn’t the case here.
Everything else feels like a watered-down version of its console counterparts. Still, it’s the only way to enjoy this fighting game on Android. However, if you need to get a Naruto Shippuden experience on the go, you’d be better off looking for the official Switch version.
