Free VPN service for Android

Atlas VPN is a free virtual personal network (VPN) service for Android devices. As you would expect from a VPN, Atlas connects you securely to the Internet, protecting your data and preserving your anonymity. It also has additional tricks up its sleeve, such as SafeSwap which aims to make it stand out from its competitors.

However, in at least one key aspect, Atlas VPN doesn't quite measure up to the VPN options available today. If you want to check out those other options Turbo VPN and Free VPN Tomato are both worth considering.

SafeSwap

SafeSwap is an innovation that isn't commonly found in VPN services. It enhances your online anonymity by constantly switching your Internet traffic between IP addresses without losing your connection to the Atlas VPN servers.

Atlas makes it simple to change between their SafeSwap servers which are located in Singapore, Los Angeles, and Amsterdam. The company states that it is constantly working to increase the number of locations available for SafeSwap.

Private DNS

The Atlas VPN app includes a Private DNS feature. It provides you with online anonymity by hiding the real names of the websites that you visit. It will unblock geo-restricted websites, and external observers will only be able to see that you’re on a private DNS website.

No-logs policy

An increasing number of VPN services don't hold any data that can be linked to their users. With Atlas of VPN, you can rest assured that you're not compromising your security or anonymity by using their servers. This also helps to protect them from liability if you do experience a security or privacy breach.

Best location detector

With Atlas VPN, you're automatically connected to the best server. Each time you tap the ‘Connect’ button, the app takes into account your current download speed and latency, as well as your physical distance from their nearest server. The aim is to give you express access to the internet with the best possible security.

Our take

Atlas VPN has several features which can be very useful, but most importantly, anonymity, privacy and security with a fast VPN. While the app is free, you’ll need to sign up for a subscription for more advanced features.

Atlas has a lot going for it, but it's a mixed bag of reviews. When you consider other VPN services with comparable pricing and feature sets, Atlas VPN doesn't compare that well. The most apparent area it fails is the fact that it doesn't use AES-256 encryption, which is the current industry standard.
