Trainer Canyon allows you to catch and train a series of fictional creatures and then have them battle it out in various arenas. There are RPG elements, but the primary gameplay loop involves finding pets and training them. It invites comparisons to Pokemon and Pixelmon.
This game could be called a Pokemon clone, except that this game is free, the creatures are a little more colourful, and there is more of a defending mechanic than what you see in games like Pokemon Go. This game did have a multiplayer function like that of Friday Night Funkin' Multiplayer.
Is Trainer Canyon offline?
Yes, this multiplayer game is offline, which means you need to download it from third-party websites, and it also means that you cannot play people online. You can play locally against the game and/or against people you can connect to locally, but you cannot play it as an online multiplayer game because the multiplayer servers are no longer active.
Game updates have also stopped, which means the game may not work on your device and/or with your current operating system.
What is the latest version of Trainer Canyon?
Version 4 was the last version of this casual game before its developers stopped supporting it. You can still play in the offline modes, which are often the best modes to hone your pet skills.
Trainer Canyon still has cult appeal, but there are no new versions. The new versions you see online are just ports of version 4 that have been put on different devices.
Suffers from the Pokemon problem
Trainer Canyon has two Pokemon monster catcher problems. The first is the comparison to Pokemon and the second is the lack of a story arc. After a while, the grind becomes more and more pointless, and now that online multiplayer mode is gone, a large part of the competitive appeal has gone too.
Plus, the Pokemon game comparisons cannot be ignored, since many of the pets or monsters in the game are obviously heavily inspired by recognizable members of the Pokemon monster roster.
