Warlander is a free-to-play game set in a medieval environment. It is a multiplayer hack-and-slash game where the player engages in combat with other players in an online world, earning upgrades for their character's loadouts. Players can build a roster of class-based characters for a variety of different combat situations.
In terms of gameplay, one of the most obvious comparisons to draw with Warlander is that of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. This is also an online multiplayer game in a medieval setting that is free to play. However, Warlander differentiates itself from pure medieval combat games.
Warlander attempts to bring a new take to the genre by incorporating a number of different aspects into its gameplay. At its core, it is a third-person hack-and-slash combat game, but it also incorporates elements from modern-day MOBA games, battle-royale games, and more. Battles can scale up to as many as 100 players at a time.
Tactics play an important role in Warlander. At a fundamental level, the player will need to build a roster of characters that they can use to face all the challenges thrown at them. Beyond character selection, there are more traditional battle tactics to consider, such as laying siege to a stronghold or focusing firepower on a particular fortification.
Warlander provides a lot of gameplay for fans of medieval combat games. It is likely that the game will lack appeal to players who are not fans of medieval settings. However, for players who are, this game introduces some modes and mechanics that are uncommon in the genre.
