Ligaw from Raven Studio is a free first-person psychological horror game available for Windows. Like other games in the genre such as Fears to Fathom or Deep City, you need to explore an unsettling location full of horrible things and survive. There are many dark areas to search, which also drives fear into you with every breath.
You’re a simple delivery driver, but soon you’ll find out that delivering your parcels gets intertwined with surviving all the dangers ahead. To do that, you need to solve puzzles and find different items that will help you. Being a game firmly set in psychological horror, the danger is latent, and the atmosphere is tense while never being obvious.
Good graphics, but a bit too dark
Ligaw looks great and the environments are well made. Objects are well-designed and you have contextual information to help you, such as which mouse button to click. However, the environment is too dark, and sometimes it makes it difficult to know what you need to do. Darkness is certainly important here, but perhaps they went a bit overboard with it.
Clever puzzles and controls
An important part of Ligaw are the puzzles, which strike a good balance between being not too evident and challenging at the same time. You’ll find special tools to solve them, as well as keys. These items are scattered around and, because of the darkness, they’re sometimes difficult to find.
Ligaw is a solid choice for horror fans
Ligaw offers enough value for any horror RPG lover. It’s a great game where the good clearly outweighs the bad. And, best of all, it’s completely free to download and play. Being a game from a Philippines studio, it adopts a refreshingly different perspective than AAA games generally offer.
You’ll love trying to solve the puzzles in the horror environment, solving mysteries and finding ways to escape the terror. With the well-designed objects, your heart may go standing for a few moments in different parts of the game. However, you’ll need to contend with areas that are too dark to see.
