FNV Decibelmeter: Measure the Noise at Work
FNV Decibelmeter is a free Android app developed by FNV Online that allows you to measure the volume of noise you are exposed to at work. The app provides immediate advice on the safety of your work environment and what you should do to protect yourself. This is particularly important as every year many people suffer from hearing damage due to prolonged exposure to loud noise.
Using the microphone of your phone, you can measure the volume of noise in decibels (dB). The app advises you on whether the noise is harmful to your ears, based on the volume and duration of exposure. The Working Conditions Act requires your employer to provide hearing protection if the noise level exceeds 80 dB.
It is worth noting that the quality of the microphones in different devices can vary. The app has been thoroughly tested and optimized, but Samsung phones such as the Galaxy Ace, Google Nexus, Galaxy S Advance, and Galaxy S3 do not measure noise above 85 dB. Also, the noise measurement of the Android app does not work well enough on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.
