The game's main quest is to escape prison and find the royal heir, but the open-world allows players to explore Tamriel and complete various side quests.
The protagonist is a fully customizable character, with the player choosing his or her character class, race, gender, age, and other attributes. The game features a fast travel option that allows players to instantly move to an already discovered location. The Game of the Year Edition includes two expansion packs, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, which add new locations, factions, armor, weapons, and items to the game.
