coconutWiFi: Instantly Check WiFi Network Range
Screenshots
coconutWiFi is a free Mac application developed by Coconut Flavour that allows users to quickly check if they are in range of a wireless network. This menu bar item appears as a small bubble and provides information on all the wireless networks in close proximity.
One of the advantages of coconutWiFi is that it offers more detailed information about WiFi networks, which is sometimes lacking in Apple's AirPort. The bubble in the menu bar turns green if there is an unencrypted and open network in range, and yellow or red if not. Additionally, coconutWiFi displays the number of available wireless connections. By clicking on the bubble, users can access a drop-down menu that provides information on each individual network, such as the channel or BBSID.
The latest version of coconutWiFi includes several changes and improvements. The core has been completely rewritten, resulting in a much snappier user interface. Users now have access to more additional information about networks, including BBSID and channel. Furthermore, coconutWiFi also offers airport power control directly from the menu.
Please note that coconutWiFi is only available for Mac users and is categorized as a file sharing application under the subcategory of WiFi.
