The free 29 card game app brings this popular game to your Android device. Believed to have originated in the Netherlands before Dutch traders would then bring it to South Asia, this is a South Asian group’s trick-taking games. The game aims to make tricks where the Nine and the Jack are the highest cards in each suit.
With options for single-player or multiplayer and online or offline play, you can play 29 when and where you like. For even more entertaining card games, you can check out 2048 Solitaire and RummyCircle.
The playing deck
In 29, you only use 32 cards from a standard 52-card deck. You use eight cards from each suit: King, Queen, Jack, Ten through to Seven, and the Ace.
Card scores
Card scoring differs from the traditional western pattern of King to Ace (or Ace to 2). Instead, in 29, the card values are as follows in descending order:
- Jack (three points)
- Nines (2 points)
- Aces and tens (1 point)
- King, Queen, Eight and Seven are worthless
How to play
In the first stage, the players bid to choose the trump. Once they’ve chosen it, play continues, with each person attempting to follow the suit of the previous card played. When someone plays one of the declared trump cards, they win tricks. Your objective is to win tricks containing the most valuable cards.
Gameplay options
The app offers great flexibility according to the quality of your internet connection and your own preferences. You can play single-player offline. There are also online and Bluetooth multiplayer options. The online multiplayer option allows you to play with friends or random players.
Tricky cards
For those accustomed to the traditional western card games, the scoring of 29 may initially take some getting used to. However, it doesn't take long because there are only four cards in each suit that are worth anything.
Moreover, you can stick to single-player mode while getting used to it and prepare yourself for the more competitive multiplayer options. Even if you're not an experienced card player, you'll find the UI (user interface) easy to navigate, so it's well worth giving this game a try.
