Bukalapak is an online marketplace akin to Amazon, but it’s only available in Indonesia and several other nearby countries. International transactions are difficult to complete. If you can’t read Indonesian, then you should consider downloading a different programme.
Easy to navigate application
The interface is neat and bright, making it easy to navigate. You’ll see common brands as well as local products. All the features are the same as popular apps like Shopee and Amazon. The difference is that users be able to breeze through all the banners. You won’t find all the labels and promos cluttered up on top of each other.
Can’t change the app’s language
There isn’t an English edition for Bukalapak or any other languages, for that matter. For the sake of security, do not use if you’re not fluent in Indonesian. What’s strange is that the app offers international shipping, but most of the sale items are bought and sold by people in Indonesia.
The programme’s performance is smooth even on older Android. It won’t run well on some models due to the heavy RAM usage. You can still expect fast launching and transitions, so that’s good. Battery consumption is an issue with this app because it uses around 7 - 10% per hour depending on your phone.
A long list of issues
Considering this app supports international commerce, you would think currency exchange is automatic. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Everything is in rupiah (Rp) regardless of the location from where you’re buying.
To make matters worse, not every seller’s information is displayed on this app, so you don’t know if you’re buying from a reputable person or company. On some items, they do, but still in Indonesian.
Transactions are super fast when you’re the buyer. Money is deducted from your account right away, sometimes twice. Be mindful of the exchange rates when you make a purchase. There may be discrepancies on your receipt due to fluctuation. The majority of user complaints attribute to this problem.
Problematic international buying
If you live somewhere in Southeast Asia and likes to buy stuff from neighbouring countries, you may try this app. There are still some technical issues, but the customer service is helpful. It’s best to have an Indonesian bank account to make your transactions easier.
One of the things they need to work on is how long people have to wait for their product. When you’re a buyer from outside of Indonesia, prepare to sit around for weeks. Sellers face the same issue waiting for their funds if they’re from someplace else.
