During periods of time on the web, Ad-Aware Total Security is constantly scanning for URLs known to be dangerous. It is able to check each site against a database of malicious websites, which is updated regularly (every five to 20 minutes). Ad-Aware Total Security has a simplified interface with some predefined options that provide you with maximum security. The components are arranged into tabs, and the ‘Home’ tab provides information on the status of each protection component; real-time, email, web and network, and gaming mode, etc. Additionally, you are able to view definitions, the last scan date, and total signatures. Computer scans can likewise be done in a few clicks. You can choose a custom or full scan. The default scanning options cover critical system areas, i.e. program files, whilst the full scan mode covers the entire hard drive. Overall, Ad-Aware Total Security has some strong features such as the two-way firewall and the file shredder tool, and the app is easy to use, however, it is not excellent at protecting against some forms of malware or repairing an infected computer.
